Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER) is located in South-central, Alaska, amid picturesque, majestic, snow-capped mountains, lakes, rivers and glaciers. The area abounds with wildlife. Nearby is the largest city in Alaska, Anchorage, with a population of over 282,000. JBER is 2,090 miles north of Seattle, Washington, and 300 miles south of Fairbanks, Alaska.The area is considered high cost because of its unique location.
